The Rockies

The Canadian Rocky Mountains are part of the 'backbone' of the North American continent.  The Rockies you know from the postcards, and tourist brochures, are the 'Front Ranges', the steep, jagged peaks of the Eastern Rockies in Alberta, around 900km inland from Vancouver and the Pacific coast. The mountains of the continental divide separate the dry, high prairies of Eastern Alberta from the lush rainforests of BC.

Travelling from Eastern Canada, after crossing the flat prairies, seeing the snowy peaks of the Rockies rise over the horizon has got to be one of the most spectacular sights in Canada.

From the West, heading from the Pacific coast inland, each range of mountains rises higher and more jagged than the ones before, until suddenly ahead of you are the stunning  snowy peaks of the Rocky Mountains .

Banff, Jasper and Waterton Lakes National Parks are wilderness areas of exceptional scenery, protected from development by the Canadian government. All the  Plants, Trees and Wild Animals of the parks, from the smallest snails to the huge Grizzly bear, are protected by law to allow them to live, breed and survive into the future.

The National Parks are places where we can see nature as it was. Come with us on a True North adventure tour to experience the best of these iconic Canadian Parks.

Without the commitment to maintain and add to these special places they could easily be overwhelmed by encroaching farms, industry and even just the number of people who want to experience the wilderness. Our adventure eco-tours 'tread lightly' and have a commitment to the protection of these special places. Our guides all share a love of the Rockies and are certified through the Mountain Parks Heritage Interpretive Association (MPHIA)

See the articles below for more information on some of the wildlife, and some organisations and conservation initiatives dedicated to the protection of our natural heritage.
